Northern Savonia

Northern Savo is one of the 19 regions of Finland. The population of the region is 248,190 (as of 30 June 2023). Northern Savo is the sixth-largest region in Finland in terms of population. The regional capital is Kuopio. Other urban centres are Varkaus and Iisalmi. The regional joint body of the region is the Northern Savo Association. The largest lake in the water-rich region is Kallavesi (area 513 km²) and the highest point is Rautavaara's Maaselänmäki, which reaches 318 metres above sea level. Northern Savo is surrounded by the following regions: Central Finland in the west, Northern Ostrobothnia in the north-west, Kainuu in the north, North Karelia in the east and Southern Savo in the south.
