North Karelia

North Karelia is a province of Finland, located in Eastern Finland. The provincial capital is Joensuu. Other cities are Kitee, Lieksa, Nurmes and Outokumpu. The largest lake in the province, which is rich in water, is Pielinen (area 868 km²) and the highest point is Lieksan Koli, which reaches 347 meters above sea level. North Karelia is surrounded by the following provinces: North Savo and South Savo in the west, Kainuu in the north and South Karelia in the south. In the east, the province borders the Russian Republic of Karelia.
