Southern Savonia

South Savo is a province of Finland located in Eastern Finland. The provincial capital is Mikkeli and other cities are Pieksämäki and Savonlinna. South Savo is the province with the most lakes in Finland. The largest lake in the province is Saimaa and the highest point is Paukkulanmäki in Kangasniemi, which reaches 225 meters above sea level. The municipalities of South Savo can be roughly divided into Greater or Western Savo, which includes Mikkeli and the surrounding municipalities, and Eastern Savo, whose capital is Savonlinna. In addition, Pieksämäki can be considered part of Central Savo, which currently extends to the regions of North Savo and North Karelia, and whose center is Varkaus.
